History

In 1951 Patriarch Justinian Marina brought to Techirghiol the little wooden church that had stood at Pelișor. It had been made around 1730–1750 at Maiorești, in Mureș, from oak beams joined with swallow-tail joints, and painted in Transylvania.

The move kept the priests’ sanatorium standing when it was threatened with confiscation, and started the monastery of Saint Mary. After 1965–1967, 1989–1990 and 2000 came repairs. You enter with clean shoes; the wood is nearly three centuries old and smells of incense and wax.
