The start of Ramadan
Ramadan is the Muslim month of fasting. In Dobrogea, Turks, Tatars and some of the Horahane Roma keep it. The date moves every year, with the moon. We do not write it here as a weekend.
Where you read the date
At the mosque, at the Muftiate of the Muslim Cult in Romania (the seat is in Constanța), on a community notice. If there is no notice, there is no event on the site.
Etiquette
Do not eat or drink ostentatiously on the mosque steps. Do not go in during prayer. Do not organise an iftar “to see the tradition”. Iftar is the meal of the house or of the community, not a show.
The mosque stays a place of worship
Carpets, shoes, dress: carpets in the mosque. An Ottoman day is another guide, of architecture, not of fasting: an Ottoman day.
