By car, half a day, through nature and landscapes of the Danube Delta, about 53 km: from Tulcea to Dunavățu de Jos, 4 stops. Departure from the gate of the Delta. A fishing village with salt lakes, a starting point into the Delta on the Sfântu Gheorghe arm. The end of the road, between the Delta canals and the Razim lagoon; here was the Cossacks' "Danubian Sich".
How to do the route
Allow half a day by car. Set out early in the morning or in the afternoon, when it is cooler. Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve (ARBDD): follow the local rules and the instructions of the authorities or of authorised guides.
Stops on the route
- Tulcea - Departure from the Delta gateway.
- Murighiol - Fishing village with salt lakes, starting point into the Delta on the St George branch.
- Cetatea Halmyris - The citadel where Epictet and Astion were martyred (AD 290); their relics, discovered in the crypt in 2001.
- Dunavățu de Jos - End of the road, between the Delta channels and Razim lagoon; here stood the Danubian Sich of the Cossacks.
